Fred H. Jones, Ex Officio Member
It seems natural that Fred would be drawn
to a legal career given that he is the fourth generation
of his family to practice in Franklin-currently with the
law firm of Jones, Key, Melvin & Patton, PA. Since 1992
he has been providing legal expertise in the areas of civil
litigation, mediation, real estate transactions, corporations,
and estate planning. The recipient of a Morehead scholarship
based on leadership, scholarships, physical vigor, and community
service, Fred received his undergraduate degree with Honors
in Economics and Philosophy from the University of North
Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1987. Upon receiving his J.D. with
Honors in 1990 from University of North Carolina-Chapel
Hill, he served as Law Clerk to Associate Justice Willis
P. Whichard, North Carolina Supreme Court in Raleigh.
In 2007, Fred received the prestigious
North Carolina Citizen Lawyer Award from the North Carolina
Bar Association in recognition of the many ways he has chosen
to serve and lead in our community. He has served on the
Angel Medical Center Board of Trustees since 2002, as Vice-Chair
from 2003-2007, and Chairman from 2007 to the present time.
Fred also serves on the boards of Rabun Gap Nacoochee School
and Macon Bank. Youth sports have been an interest of his,
and he has served as a coach for the Macon County Basketball
League and Little League Baseball. With an interest in environmental
issues as well, he has been a member of the Little Tennessee
Watershed Association since 1999, serving as chairman from
2003-2006. Fred is a member of the Franklin Daybreak Rotary
as a Paul Harris Fellow. His service as Chairman of the
Board of Trustees for Angel Medical Center requires a great
deal of his time.
“I serve on the Hospital Board because
Angel Medical Center is a vital part of my community--in
terms of the wonderful health care services it provides,
in terms of the great employment opportunities for young
people to move to Franklin, and in terms of the overall
positive benefit to the local economy. It is a great honor
to be involved with Angel, and to follow in the footsteps
of the many other leaders whom I respect who have served
the community in this way.”
Fred and his wife Jennifer DeJonge Jones
live in Franklin with their two children, Lyle and Katherine.
He enjoys watching Carolina basketball, playing golf, and
availing himself of the beautiful outdoors.
